About
Joel Maillard
SaaS Coach · SaaS Architect · Fractional CTO · Founder
Joel Maillard is a UK-based SaaS coach, SaaS architect, and fractional CTO with 24+ years of software engineering experience. He works with founders and entrepreneurs to validate ideas, design scalable SaaS architectures, and build production-grade products — drawing on real execution experience across multiple industries and his own SaaS ventures.
Beginning his software engineering career in 2002, Joel has worked across government, defence, aerospace, financial services, investment banking, and technology. His technical specialism is SaaS architecture — designing the systems, data models, infrastructure, and multi-tenancy patterns that allow SaaS products to scale without costly rewrites. Alongside his consulting and fractional CTO work, he coaches founders through the full journey from idea to revenue.
Beyond his professional engineering career, Joel is the founder of several software ventures, including Dealigent, a property intelligence platform designed to help property investors analyse and evaluate investment opportunities, and Plevits, a SaaS analytics and valuation platform focused on helping founders understand the health, performance, and value of their businesses.
Joel is also known for his interest in the intersection of artificial intelligence, software development, and entrepreneurship. Through his writing and educational content, he advocates for a balanced approach to AI adoption, combining human judgement, experience, and strategic thinking with the productivity gains offered by modern AI tools.
As an author, Joel writes about software engineering, SaaS businesses, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, product development, and founder experiences. His work focuses on helping builders, developers, and entrepreneurs navigate the rapidly evolving technology landscape while maintaining strong engineering and business fundamentals.
In addition to his technology ventures, Joel has been involved in property investment and business acquisition discussions, with a particular interest in data-driven decision-making, startup growth, and digital asset ownership.
Outside of technology, Joel is a musician and worship leader who has played multiple instruments since childhood. His interests span software engineering, business, publishing, music, personal development, and emerging technologies.
Joel currently lives in the United Kingdom, where he continues to develop software products, write, and share insights on technology, entrepreneurship, and artificial intelligence.
